The Importance of Thoughts….

The importance of thought. Most patterns of thought that sabotage your success come from beliefs that reside in your subconscious mind. While some limiting beliefs or fears may be in your conscious mind, the ones in your subconscious mind are usually somewhat hidden and typically much more powerful than the ones you are consciously aware of!

I encourage you to start aligning your thoughts to your success. If you don’t take action to interrupt the patterns that are sabotaging your success, your attempts at success might not improve. In fact, cutting edge brain science studies have shown, that these fears get worse over time, not better.

These sabotaging patterns and paradigms are often the reason people do not succeed in their business. Or, in achieving their dreams.

What beliefs around success are influencing you? They might be showing up as fears, procrastination, discomfort taking actions around success, self-sabotage, limiting beliefs.

Take some time and write them down. You might be surprised at what is showing up. Then take action to change your thoughts/beliefs. By changing your thoughts, you truly CAN change your life!

The power of ‘tapping’. One successful tool I use with my clients is ‘tapping’ or (emotional freedom technique). I have found this technique to be very effective at helping my clients change thoughts/beliefs at the subconscious level. I find ‘tapping’ to be a very effective tool that can be done  quickly and easily.

Questions to ask yourself if you are thinking about starting your own business…

Thinking about starting your own business? Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Why do I want my own business?
  • Am I passionate about what I want to do?
  • What are my goals?
  • Where do I see myself in 5 years time? In 10 years time?
  • Am I willing to do what it takes to create my own financial freedom, or do I prefer the safety of a weekly paycheck?
  • Do I have something that others want or need? (information/knowledge/expertise)
  • Is there a market or a need for what I want to do?
  • Do I have the means to get me through the start up period and through any lean periods?
  • Am I willing to learn and implement effective marketing and business strategies?
  • Am I open to advice and criticism?
  • Am I willing to deal with obstacles, fears, and challenges that come up? (Trust me, they WILL come up. Owning your own business is the graduate school of personal development)

Personally, owning my own business has been awesome! It has allowed me to help people without the constraints of a company telling me what I can or cannot do! I have been able to make a lot of money and have the freedom to spend time with family and friends, all while doing something I love! I’ll be the first to say that it has it challenges. But to me, it has been worth it! I can honestly say, that for me, it’s been the graduate school of personal development:-)

Internal Roadblocks can Sabotage Your Success

You are not alone.

Does it feel like you are really trying , but are continuing to struggle. Are you coming up with all kinds of excuses or reasons why things aren’t working? Are you telling yourself, maybe I’m just not cut out for this?

Often you hear people say, buckle up and try harder. Or, you just need to put in more time and effort. Yes, you can try harder to change by taking more action in the “outside,” physical world, but know that internal roadblock are one of the most common reasons business owners do not success! Brain science is now showing, in fact, that limiting beliefs and negative feelings can literally sabotage your success and cause you to fail.

The good news… You can change the internal roadblocks so that you can move from surviving to THRIVING and it can be easier than you think!

So how do you effect ‘real change’, change that starts from within?

First step: Identify what is holding you back. Some common internal roadblocks are:

  • Thinking small. If you expect less, you get less. You have to think big and believe you can have success before you will actually experience it.
  • Fear. Probably the most popular culprit, the list of fears is endless. Whatever your fears, they prevent you in some way from experiencing your full potential.

Second Step: Once you have identified what is holding you back, it’s time to start working on changing the internal dialog. There are numerous ways to do this. The important thing is – take action and intentionally focus on finding a way that works for you. Take the power away from the internal roadblocks that are holding you back so you can start THRIVING NOW!

The Power of Intention In Your Business

Whatever you put your attention on will grow stronger in your life.

“Conscious change is brought about by the two qualities inherent in consciousness: attention and intention,” writes Deepak Chopra in Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. “Attention energizes, and intention transforms. Intention, on the other hand, triggers transformation of energy and information. Intention organizes its own fulfillment.” When you declare an intention, you gain the support of your subconscious mind.

Try this exercise for Intention:

  • Get clear on what you want and why. It’s not enough to know what you don’t want. You can’t get what you want until you know what that is.
  • Imagine it. See it as happening. “Your imagination creates the inner picture that allows you to participate in the act of creation,” writes Dr. Wayne Dyer in his best-selling book The Power of Intention. “Your willpower is much less effective than your imagination, which is your link to the power of intention.”

Take action and complete the exercise now. And, find someone to hold you accountable.

Boost Your Success with an Optimistic Attitude

When looking at your business and your life, do you tend to be more optimistic/positive or pessimistic/negative? 

Food for thought…

Martin Seligman, psychologist and clinical researcher, has spent decades studying optimism and pessimism. In his bestselling book, How to Change Your Mind and Your Life, he states that pessimistic thinking can undermine not just your behavior but your success in all areas of your life. He adds, however, that “Pessimism is escapable… Pessimists can learn to be optimists.”

Optimism is not just a feel-good strategy. When we focus our attention on our innate character strengths that we all have such as wisdom, courage, compassion verses perceived failures and what we don’t have, we boost not only our moods, but our immune system and success levels as well. Research has shown that optimistic people tend to be healthier and experience more success in life.

To alter our lives—and the challenges we face—we must first recognize what we say to ourselves when we experience a setback. By changing negative patterns of thinking and changing our interior negative dialogue, we can allow optimism which in turn can enhance success.

Ready to make a change in your own life and business? Try this exercise:  Write down the answers to the following question – What do I say to myself when challenges or problems come up? Try to come up with your 5 most common default answers 

Once you have completed the exercise, take action by changing the negative dialog or negative patterns of thinking into more optimistic or positive statements. Continue to revisit this exercise on a weekly basis for the first 90-days.

3 Powerful Questions to Ask Yourself

Asking yourself these 3 questions each morning, can have a powerful effect on your work and your life. I encourage you to try it!

Action Step: Ask yourself these 3 questions each morning before you start your day. You can also complete the exercise the night before.

1. What would you like to see accomplished today and will you accomplish it?

2. What is the most important priority for you today and why?

3. If I could change one thing in my business/life today that would have the greatest impact, what would it be?

Write your answers down in a work or task journal. It’s not only a great way to start your day in an intentional way, it’s also a great way to celebrate successes and remember how far you have come!

For longer term goals, complete the exercise for each week, month, and/or year.

Take action now. And, find someone to hold you accountable.

Why doesn’t success happen easily for most people?

Why doesn’t success happen easily for most people?

When I run into service-based entrepreneurs and ask them more about what they do, I get to see how much they truly care about helping people. I get to hear how inspired and passionate they are about serving others and making a difference. And I get excited for them, because their services are valuable and needed!

So why is it that so many service-based entrepreneurs, who are so passionate about what they do, often struggle with success?

When I work with my clients I typically have a good idea of their main challenges during our 1st session.  I look for ‘system challenges’ and I look for ‘mindset challenges’.

System challenges are pretty easy to spot.

Some of the system challenges I often run into are:

  • Lack of clarity or focus
  • Unsure what they want to do
  • Don’t know what their message is
  • Don’t know what steps to take next
  • Their target market is too broad and needs to be more clearly defined
  • Don’t know how to market
  • Don’t know how to sell
  • They don’t have a website or blog
  • They don’t know how to create campaigns.
  • They under value their services
  • They typically charge by the service or by the hour vs creating packages
  • They don’t have packages or products to sell
  • Or, any number of other system challenges

System challenges can definitely cause challenges in your business, but they are pretty easy to correct.

Mindset challenges, however, are a bit more challenging and are typically the thing that keeps people from succeeding! Amazingly, the mindset challenges, or blocks, aren’t usually given much attention. You hear many coaches or experts say things like; just do it, get over it, you have to pay your dues if you really want to succeed, or buck up and face it. While occasionally that advice might prove helpful, if it’s a hidden block with some emotional charge to it, you will probably just experience more stress. Often you will end up procrastinating or doing things that just don’t work. The blocks then get reinforced. Brain science research actually shows us that these fears and struggles get worse over time. If you don’t take action to change these blocks and beliefs, your results cannot change!

Mindset challenges often show up as:

  • Procrastination
  • Self-sabotage
  • Uncomfortable feelings you experience when taking actions around success
  • Excuses – pretty much any excuse
  • Feelings of unworthiness
  • Fear of failing
  • Fear of succeeding
  • Feel like a fraud
  • Afraid to be big
  • Afraid to be seen or heard
  • Or, basically any limiting belief or fear that inhibit your success

In order to achieve success, it is very important to identify your conscious and unconscious blocks, so that you can change your beliefs. If you don’t take action to change your beliefs, your results cannot not improve.  You will most likely continue to struggle with your business or ultimately fail with it.

I want you to succeed!

There are a lot of techniques out there to help you identify and change your beliefs. I use a variety of proven techniques with my clients. My goal is to help them identify and change their beliefs as quickly and easily as possible.

If you want to STEP UP to the NEXT LEVEL, I would encourage you to take the time to focus on the following questions…

  • What ‘system challenges’ do you have?
  • How can you improve your systems?
  • What ‘mindset challenges’ do you have?
  • What are you willing to do to identify your mindset challenges and change your beliefs?

Write them down. Create an action plan with a timetable. Find someone to hold you accountable.

Try these 4 steps for success.

These 4 steps for success can work on any type of goal, personal or business.

I was recently a part of a team challenge for a wellness challenge I committed to. We had a ‘STEP’ challenge. The team with the most ‘STEPS’ at the end of the month won a prize. I had never worn a pedometer and had NO CLUE how many STEPS I normally walked a day. Someone mentioned that fitness experts recommend 10,000 steps a day for a target. I heard that number…. and so it was. My goal was to average 10,000 steps a day!

Being the coach and motivator that I am, I also encouraged my team to STEP UP and do a side challenge with a team that had an ironman triathalon athlete in training! Hey, if you want to literally STEP UP (as I teach), sometimes you really gotta STEP UP!

I am excited to tell you – we WON the challenge! No one thought the team with the triathlete was beatable. I wasn’t about to let my team buy into that belief and limit ourselves. Besides, even if we didn’t beat them, we STEPPED UP to the challenge and probably walked a lot more steps than if we hadn’t challenged them. Oh, and I hit my 10,000 daily step average. BTW – I can honestly say that if I had not committed to these 4 steps for success, I probably would not have succeeded with my personal goal!

Here’s how we won the challenge…

We focused on these 4 steps to success. (On a side note – I found out that no other team created a plan. Hum, do you GET the benefit and value these steps can have!)

Create a plan. Once you have clear message about what you are going to do, it’s time to create a plan. Remember, your plan is not intended to be a sprint, it’s a marathon – so take small steps on a daily basis. On those days when you feel like nothing is going right or your confidence is wavering a bit, you might want to give your self permission give yourself a break – literally. Walk the dog, talk to a friend, turn on some upbeat or motivating music. It doesn’t matter what you do, just do something that you enjoy and will get you feeling great and mentally uplifted! And, if you’re procrastinating or letting fear get in the way, face it, change your thought, and get out there and do it. (I recommend some specific tools to my clients to help them when this comes up for them). Remember to focus on your plan and the original ‘why’ you created a plan. The focus on the plan can help you get back on track!

Stay confident. Take time to remind yourself of your goals every day. Taking time to look at your goals on a regular basis can renew your confidence, increase your motivation and keep you focused.

Accountability. Share your plan with an accountability partner or a coach. (In my ‘step’ example, I shared my goal with my whole team). Accountability is big piece of the puzzle towards your success. It helps keep you focused and motivated.

Celebrate your successes. Take time to celebrate successes on a daily basis. Some days it might be a little success, some days a big success. Just find something to celebrate each day! Focusing on your success can increase your confidence, increase your motivation and  keep you focused.

Put these 4 steps in place and STEP UP to your success too!

A fun and creative challenge for you…

I encourage you to STEP UP and create a RIPPLE that could bring some joy to a friend or family member’s day! Plus, I bet it’ll feel good to you too! :-) And, I personally found it to be A LOT OF FUN!

When I was visiting a friend the other day she showed me a couple of video creations she had made for some friends. They loved them. And, I thought they were really cool!

After I left, I thought more about it – what a neat thing to do!  But then I thought, wow… I wonder if I can do it. I encouraged myself to STEP UP! So, I tried it out! Btw, if you use the Animoto FREE service, you can create unlimited 30 second or less creations.

I made the first one for my dad.  (see below).

‘The Ripple’ took less than 15 minutes for me to make it and email it to him. Can I just add… what a WONDERFUL FEELING I also got by consciously taking the time to share a moment with him!

And, then I made several more to send to some friends. They LOVED THEM! And, they appreciated the time I took thinking about them and creating something special for them.  A RIPPLE EFFECT was created:-)

Then someone challenged me to create one that had a variety of some of my crazy pics to share with the world to let you all see a little more about me… They said something about being vulnerable…

Well, here ya go – I’m sharing a few fun moments in time. Including a shot of my dad and a pic me at 1 1/2 years old:-)

Yes, I know… a few are duplicates of shots on my dad’s video, but hey… I hadn’t originally planned on sharing his. I just wanted to show you how simple but neat they could be!

After I completed the ones I made for family and friends, I was having so much fun, I wanted to create more! So, I made a couple for my website. Try it, it’s FUN!

Again, I would encourage you to create A RIPPLE EFFECT and try making some too. It really IS fun AND a great way to surprise someone!

The Importance of Discovering Your Strengths

Do you invest in a personal growth training to try to improve something you felt you were not good at? For most of us, we focus on trying to improve our weak areas in operating our business. Often focusing on areas such as marketing, sales, personnel management or public speaking. Whatever the area, we feel as if we are required to do battle with what we don’t do well…. As it turns out, the majority of people around the world, across all ages and cultures, are more concerned about their weaknesses than their strengths. They believe that our weaknesses matter more in holding us back than our strengths matter in advancing us.

What if I said, that’s nonsense, widely held nonsense, but nonsense nonetheless. In a provocative theory by Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton in their new book, ‘Now, Discover Your Strengths’, they suggest just that. They believe that the better strategy is to play to your strengths, building upon your core talents, and work around your weaknesses. According to them, you can work to add skills and knowledge to increase your performance in any area, but unless you are building upon one of your innate talents, your efforts won’t produce exceptional results—some results, yes, but not dramatic improvement.
